Preschool teachers experience of high sound levels : A qualitative study of preschool teachers experiences of high sound levels in the preschool’s indoor environment (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to gain more knowledge about how preschool teachers experience that their health is affected by high noise levels in the preschool’s indoor environment. The study is seen from an environmental psychological perspective. The choice of method fell on qualitative interviews and was conducted with six preschool teachers who worked at the same preschool.

Through qualitative content analysis it emerged that the teachers in the study felt that their health was affected by high noise levels. They showed an awareness of the influence of sound levels and experienced, among other things, stress in various forms, hearing problems and behavior modification. It turned out in the study that the preschool teachers’ working methods and attitude to the work played an important role in lowering the sound levels. It also shows that the stress of the preschool teachers was highest when there were many children centered in the same place.
