Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to investigate the changing process that the Police authority in Region Nord has carried out and examine how the employees experienced the leadership, and if they have experienced any changes in leadership since the process started. The study also aims to evaluate what employees describe as sources of motivation and how leaders can influence an individual's motivation. The study was conducted through qualitative interviews which were analyzed. The result shows that both managers and employees considered that there has been a change in the way leaders within the police are in their leadership, but that it is a long way to go from a more authoritarian leadership to a trust-based and co-operative way of leading. The results of the study show that managers within the police think that motivation among employees is created by the manager confirming and creating opportunities for development for the employee. This was consistent with what the employees described as motivational factors in their work. Finally, the results show that the employees had no knowledge of the management philosophy, and that the managers had different opinions on the philosophy.
