Svenska företags klimatkompensering: Avlatsbrev eller ansvarsfullt komplement?

Carbon offsetting at Swedish companies : Letter of indulgence or responsible supplement? (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Voluntary carbon offsetting offers individuals, organizations and companies the opportunity to elsewhere reduce carbon dioxide emissions corresponding to their own climate footprint, a debated tool with opportunities and challenges. This study has examined how Swedish companies that voluntarily carbon offset relate to the method - why it was introduced, what role it has and whether it has affected the general sustainability work. With the help of interviews, communication materials and sustainability reports, MAX Burgers AB and the Folksam Group have been examined. The result shows no clear recoil effects and that communication, ecological return and carbon sinks have been important aspects. The study discusses how the problematic aspects of carbon offsetting can be weighed up by the fact that it is a cheap and easily accessible tool, in the case of tree planting within an extra important area; carbon sinks. Several concrete conclusions are reached through the result, but due to the limitations of the study, a larger examination based on a thorough questionnaire would be needed to be able to quantify Swedish companies' motivations for sustainability work and carbon offsetting.
