Influencing factors on Nurses hand hygiene at hospitals - A literature review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Tio vetenskapliga artiklar inkluderades i litteraturstudien.

Abstract [en]

Introduction: Good hand hygiene plays an important role in the preventive work against health-related infections. In many places, hand hygiene fails, even though good hand hygiene is the primary way to prevent these infections. Purpose: To identify factors that affect nurses' hand hygiene in hospitals. Method: The literature study was conducted in accordance with the Polit & Beck (2012) nine-step model for literature studies. Ten scientific articles were included in the literature study. All articles were quality-checked and analyzed inductively. Result: During the data processing, the main category emerging organization emerged with the subcategories Education, Reminders of the Importance of Hand Hygiene, Material Resources, Work Environment and Supporting Leadership, as well as the main category Nurse's awareness with the subcategories Awareness of Protecting Self, Awareness of Patient Protection and Awareness of Hand Hygiene Performance. Conclusion: The results of the literature study show factors that affect nurses' hand hygiene; Education that provided increased knowledge of hand hygiene and the consequences of lack of hand hygiene, reminders of the importance of hand hygiene, material resources, work environment, supportive management, awareness of self-protection and patients and awareness of hand hygiene performance.
