Proreading work for adults less familiar with reading (English)
Abstract [en]

Our aim with this Master thesis is to show how some selected actors react on the decrease in reading amongst people within the LO group the Swedish Trade Union Confederation. The methods used are interviews and literary studies. The theoretical background of our discussion is based on the theories and definitions of Bourdieu. The actors we investigate are the public libraries, some various trade unions, the adult education Organization ABF, the cultural affairs committee. We discuss from what view on their own role/obligations respective the society they act and what barriers that prevents reading, the actors consider exists within the group of adults less familiar with reading. We also look into attitudes towards this group of readers and describe how the pro-reading work looks like today and how the actors want it to be in the future. We compare the work of actors in three different communities and look into the differences that exist and discuss the reasons why. Some pro-reading work like libraries at workplaces and projects like Läs för mig pappa Read to me dad are discussed especially. All of the informants consider the decrease in reading amongst the LO group a problem but explains it differently. According to the concept of Bourdieu, we discuss whether alarming reports on a decrease in reading and talk about groups of adults less familiar with reading, can be a way to legitimate pro-reading work.
