Culture Sponsorship of Moderate motions : a discourse analysis (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to study cultural sponsorship of cultural institutions and cultural events in some particular points of views. Namely, how do the Moderate party look at cultural sponsorship based on their motions and how these motions have been received by the Swedish parliament. The aim has been broken down into three questions. Firstly, how does the Moderate party look at sponsorship of cultural institutions and cultural events based on their motions on the subject. Secondly, what views have been existed in parliament both in committee and plenary, against the motions? Thirdly, what are the most relating paragraphs for the different material groups. Sweden's conservative party has long since (1969) been called the Moderate party. The theory and method used is discourse analysis focusing on Laclau and Mouffe´s theory. Central concepts are nodal point, torque, element, flowing significance, articulation, equivalence chain and discourse. Every material group has its own nodal points, torque, equivalence chains and discourses. Moderates motions have the nodal points culture, cultural sponsorship and public support. Committees letters have the nodal points cultural sponsorship and public support. Chamber debate have the nodal points cultural sponsorship, public assistance, tax law and donation. Material groups are created in different environments with different frames of reference and opinions differ among the groups. There are liquid significances between the material groups. The Moderate party are in favor of cultural sponsorship. The committees are the most negative to this. The members of the Plenary are belonging to different political parties. This means that their opinion differ.
