Towards Future Heritage Management: The Swedish National Heritage Board’s Environmental Scanning Report
Responsible organisation
2006 (English)Book (Other academic)
Abstract [en]

In 2006, the Government commissioned the National Heritage Board to present 'an Environmental Scanning Report (ESR) that looks at the changes and development tendencies in society that can have significance for the cultural heritage and the development of cultural policy.' The purpose of this ESR is to create a foundation for Government's assessment of the cultural heritage fields and cultural policy development. Moreover, the analysis is intended as a support for the formation of long-term strategies for work concerned with the historic environment. The time horizon is set to 2015 which means a more future-oriented perspective compared to previous ESRs. Three specific challenges are identified: 1. Increased readiness to manage landscaps in transformation. 2. Strengthening humanistic and historical perspectives. 3. Formulate modern assignments for the cultural heritage sector.
