An analysis of the relationship between study performance in an academic leveland selected factors (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This thesis in mathematical statistics, gives the reader an insight of which factors affect the study performance of a university student. Two health related factors such as the amount of sleep and physical activity were examined as well as the student’s parental academic background. A regression analysis was con- ducted in order to analyze the relationship between these factors and the study performance of a university student. The regression model was based on data collected solely by students from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm through an internet based questionnaire.

In summary, a positive relationship was identified between the student’s study performance and having at least one parent with an academical background, especially if the academical background was in the area of technical- and scientifical studies. A positive relationship was also found between the study perfor- mance and the interaction between sleep and age. However, could a relationship not be found between the physical activity and the study performance. The fi- nal regression model provided a low value for the coefficient of determination where the possible causes are well discussed in this report.
