Abstract [en]

The goal of this thesis is to investigate an IoT cloud application that consists of little Bits (smart electronics gadgets), Philips Hue lamps (smart home lighting system) and cloud service provider IFTTT. IFTTT provides APIs through well known service providers or device manufacturers to interconnect devices and services. The functionality of this application is to perform actions on the Hue lamps based on an input signal from little Bits. This application introduces high latency because of the various involved cloud services that are used to forward the request from little Bits to Philips Hue lamps. Initially we try to detect the source of the high latency and then we migrate the application logic from the cloud down to a fog node on the local network.With this approach all the requests will be fulfilled through the local network so the status and quality of the Internet connection and cloud services will not affect the functionality.
