Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze elderly people's experience of life satisfaction. The empirical study was obtained through a qualitative approach with five semistructured interviews with the elderly 65 years and over who receive home care and remain in their own home. Based on the collected empirical material, three different areas of life were identified that were important for life satisfaction. These are reported in the form of life areas; Activities in daily life, Physical and mental health and Social networking. The results of the collected empirical material were interpreted from the theories of Sense of Coherence and Gerotranscendence as well as the concept of Coping. The study's main findings indicate that health is the underlying factor that was affecting how the elderly were given the opportunity to obtain life satisfaction throughout all areas of life. In the result, it was also found that the elderly generally feels a life satisfaction and that they use coping strategies to deal with aging. The result showed a lack of opportunity for conversation, which could have a negative impact on the psychosocial health of the elderly.
