Abstract [en]

Based on the ever-changing digital landscape, the study investigates how a game and its components can be personalized to the player. The study explored this through the Design and Creation research strategy by the creation of a game which components are personalized with data from the player's Facebook feed. The game was designed based on the player-centric game design framework by Earnest Adams and the various personalized components were designed based on the MDA(Mechanics, Dynamics and Aesthetics) design and analysis framework by Hunicke, Leblanc & Zubeck . The game was evaluated using a focus group where the participants tested the game and discussed it. The collected data was analyzed based on the MDA(Mechanics, Dynamics and Aesthetics) framework to relate a certain experience in the game to a certain personalized component. The result shows that properly designed and implemented personalization can contribute to a better gaming experience. The evaluation also indicates that a poorly designed component can adversely affect the experience.
