Violence in nurses’ everyday life : - A literature study (Swedish)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract

Background: Threats and violence against nurses are common amongst emergency departments all over the world. Healthcare workers are at high risk of becoming victims of violence and nurses are the most exposed.

Objective: The aim of the literature study was to illustrate nurses experiences of workplace violence, physical and psychological violence in emergency departments.

Design: The literature study has been conducted by collecting qualitative data from the databases CINAHL and PubMed. The analysis was executed with inspiration of Fribergs method of analysis.

Results: The study’s result showed that the nurses experienced frustration in relation to violent events. Furthermore, consequences due to the violence were obtained. Some nurse’s also expresses a need for support in connection to these events.

Conclusion: When encountering threats and violence, the nurses experienced feelings such as anger and insecurity. The need for support in relation to the violence were also apparent. Further research concerning the topic is relevant due to a limited set of found qualitative articles. This is important since nurses encounter violence in their workplace, thus then rendering the nursing to being affected.
