Faktorer som påverkar genomförandet av traumaundersökningar med datortomografi: En allmän litteraturstudie

Background: Trauma is one of today’s most common cause of death for people under 45 years in Sweden. Time is a crucial factor for trauma care and a fast treatment can be crucial for the survival of the patient. A computed tomography scan (CT scan) is the most valuable tool for diagnosing injuries caused by trauma. Shortcomings in the implementation of CT scanning can affect efficiency and patient safety. Aim: The aim of this literature overview was to illustrate factors that affects the implementation of a CT trauma scan. Methods: This study was conducted as a literature overview where ten scientific articles was reviewed, analyzed and categorized. Results: Three categories was identified, these were the localization of the CT scanner, flow disruptions and the degree of patient injury. The localization of the CT scanner in the trauma room was an important factor that led to time savings. Flow disruptions was another factor that affected the implementation and occurred frequently during the CT scan. Most of the flow disruptions was identified as coordination problems and communication failures. The degree of patient injury was a factor that had an impact on the flow disruption frequency, inquisition time and length of stay in hospital. Conclusion: Based on the factors highlighted in the study, measures in the form of team training and simulation of various emergency situations, as well as increasing the use of communication tools, can help to strengthen and develop the radiographers’ competence in order to streamline workflow and enhance patient safety in the implementation of a trauma examination with computed tomography.
