This essay examines how the process of constructing a celebrity from an “everyday” person takes place in media. The 2015 season of the Swedish version of Idol is the subject for this analyze, where the participant Martin Almgren is the case for the study.The essay is built on research and theories regarding reality-Tv and representation of celebrities, as well as identity and stereotypes. The method for the study is a critical discourse analysis with Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional model as base for the analysis.The results show patterns in how the representation of Martin Almgren changes as the season progresses. The construction of the celebrities is done by cultural intermediaries which are presented by the Tv-production, and through the audience. The jury and the host of the show also has an important role in the production and construction of the celebrity Martin Almgren. Besides this, the result shows which qualities that are necessary for the individual to become a celebrity through the medial construction process.
