”Känner mig värdefull och respekterad”: En kvalitativ studie om betydelsefulla möten

Abstract [en]

The aim of the study was to examine student teachers' experiences of meaningful encounters at their university. A qualitative, inductive and exploratory study was conducted with open letters where the participants described meaningful encounters at their university. A number of 16 teacher students from a university in the northern part of Sweden participated in the study. Data analysis was performed by a qualitative latent content analysis which resulted in two themes in no particular order: 1. “Lifted by others' caring attityde” and 2. “Getting the strength to grow”. The first theme had the following three subthemes: 1. “Meeting a genuine friend”, 2. “Reciving a helping hand” and 3.“Feeling cared for and welcomed”. The second theme resulted in the following three subthemes: 1.“Feeling valued and respected, 2. “Believing in myself” and 3.“Discover new insights”. Results of the study were discussed in connection to health promotion. The conclusion of this study was that meaningful encounters can make people feel valued as human beings by an interaction of external and internal dimensions.
