Communication Gateways for Remote Control of Construction Vehicles

Abstract [en]

Automation and remote control of vehicles is becoming more common every day. Thisreport describes the work of developing a software designed to remote control a VolvoL110G wheel loader.Remote controlling a Volvo L110G wheel loader involves many challenges. One chal-lange that this report focuses on is to enable the use of a simulator platform developedby Oryx as the remote control station.The simulator from Oryx is a cockpit from a Volvo wheel loader which has almost allcontrols as the L110G has.Our goal is to develop two communication gateways that relays data between the Oryxsimulator to the wheel loader. These gateways should communicate wirelessly over ex-isting wireless standards such as LTE and WLAN.In order to achieve this goal a program was written in c++ that uses Stream Con-trol Transmission Protocol (SCTP) to send commands between gateways. SCTP waschosen as transport protocol as it supports multiple streams and multihoming for thecommunication which are desired features for the communications solution.
