SyncSim extensions: zooming, routing and editing

Abstract [en]

SyncSim is a Java based simulator framework capable of simulating hardware models described with Java or VHDL, depending on the used simulator module. SyncSim is used for educational purposes together with a model of a MIPS processor core in courses given at LuleƄ University of Technology. The purpose of this thesis is to extend SyncSim with a zooming system, an automatic router system and some design editing tools. Zooming and panning will facilitate use of SyncSim when teachers need to focus on a specific part of a design during a lecture. Automatic routing of design components and access to editing tools will greatly reduce the development time of new designs or when making design modifications. The result is a new version of SyncSim with enhanced support for teachers and designers/developers. An automatic routed MIPS design will have a similar bus layout as a manually created MIPS design. Designs can be modified graphically within SyncSim instead of writing XML code.
