Abstract [en]

The measuring room at Bosch Rexroth Mellansel is responsible for controlling the produced and bought components so that they meet the needs specified in the drawing. Today the measuring room is considered to be a bottleneck but the findings in this report suggest that the measuring room is not overloaded and should therefore not be a bottle neck. Analysis of the value flow within the plant gave:•The sampling frequency for components can be based on three different methods: produced amount, fixed time interval or changes in setup.•Of the available time CA- and CB-motor types both use 35 %, MA-motor use 14 %, VI-motor use 10 % and the remaining 6 % are used by supplier control, R&D-control and machine calibrations.•The components processing time through the measuring room varies from 10 minutes to 3 hours. The majority of them are between 45 and 60 minutes.•CA-motor occupancy of the measuring room increase from 31 to 53 h/w if the production rate increase from 50 to 130 units per week.•No data suggest that the measuring room is overloaded. It is bad working methods that results in a 41 % waste of the available production time.In the developed planning system all components are divided into four categories: L, M, S (for produced components with a lead time through the measuring room of < 1 h, 1-2 h, > 2 h respectively) and R (for supplier and R&D-control). The available working time where divided between the categories according to their need of measuring, generating in following scheme: L, L, M, L, L, S, R. From witch a weekly schedule where derived and implemented. The results from implementation are:•In total the median lead time is 18,5 h. Where the median lead time for L-, M-, S- and R-category is 10,0, 11,7, 17,7 and 42,0 h respectively.•95 % of all components where measured within 16,0 and 21,0 h.•With 95 % confidence the implemented planning system can be said to be better than the previously used working method.•The planning system visualizes the work load and available capacity at the measuring room in an appreciated manner.Bosch Rexroth Mellansel is recommended to:•To reduce their change over time from measuring one component to another.•Clarify the instructions about how often and in which way components should be controlled.•Perform a second pilot test with an updated schedule.•Work towards a decoupled measuring room relative the production value flow.
