Abstract [en]

The most fundamental part of a company is the ability to make a profit. To do so, one has to manage the company in an as effective way as possible, to minimise the loss of both time and material. An additional way to up the profitability is to make sure that you manage the knowledge and competence that can be found within the organisation in the best way possible, not to risk losing important co-workers or leave their potential unfulfilled. A company’s HR-department has to deal with both of these issues. It is up to them to make sure that every person within the company is happy with their work situation, to solve problems that lay in the way of this and to make sure that they get the proper encouragement to fulfil their potential, and at the same time keep an eye on who does what within the organisation so that you know what to replace in case someone was to disappear from the organisation. And just like the rest of the company, this all has to be conducted in an as cost effective way as possible. This essay examines a company that is on its way to introduce a new and more efficient IT-system for HR-work. The goal of this new system is to integrate multiple systems they used before in to one streamlined system. The purpose of the essay is to examine how the people that are affected by this and those who will use it in their work views the change and what potential pros and cons it can bring to the company long-term in the way they manage their employees. The result from the conducted interviews shows a certain awareness about the potential risks involved with relying on automation and indexation of formal knowledge and competence of its personnel, and that they by doing so risk losing some of the personal interaction and contact with them in the long term. Overall, though, the interviewed personnel welcome the changes as a much needed improvement that will increase the company’s revenue and production quality
