Abstract [en]

Because of the climate changes the risks for floods are increasing. A flood can result in enormous damage and economical loss for the households. Due to the new EU floods directive many European countries are working today by mapping areas with high flood risks and improving the information about the risks and safety works against floods. An insurance can help with the economical losses and act like a security for the insurers. This paper investigates how the economic loss in the societies can be reduced by taking action against floods to reduce the damage from them. The focus in the study is to investigate how much the information about risks and floods look like today in three different countries and if the insurers companies can help the society to reduce damage from floods. This study is based on earlier researches and collected data from scientic research and different database on the internet. The results show that the insurance companies can give more directives or incitements to the households to do safety work against floods but there are many organisations who work for to help the society with information and recommendation about floods and how to minimize the damage.
