Abstract [en]

We want this essay examine the success factors that are known as a successful project and simultaneously find out what pitfalls to avoid. We have limited ourselves in the empiricism to respondents with project management experience and their perception of IT projects. In this area, it is really important to know how to get to a good project that achieves its goals, because right IT projects have a tendency to fail. According to a compilation of several different studies, consultancy company Decuria has concluded that as much as 85 % of all IT projects onsite at companies and organizations fail!By describing the various project methodologies, different ways to drive the work process and other important concepts in IT project management and explore how project managers manage their projects, this essay shows how IT projects can look like from idea to completed while we investigate what factors are the success of the project. The conclusion from the study shows that there is not a specific method to be used for IT project success. Project method can support the project and should be adapted to the task and the organization. However, there are a number of factors that contribute to project success. These factors include planning, communication, clarity and the project manager's leadership skills and ability to organize, together with the collaboration of the project team who are open-minded.The study also examined what the definition of a successful project is. The conclusion was that a successful IT project is an IT project whose delivery is accepted by the client and is not dependent on time, cost or function. Keywords: it project, it, project, project method, project model, sequential, iterative, agile
