Acquisitions are a common growth strategy that many companies apply to expand their business. Previous studies have shown that it is common for companies to fail their acquisition based on their set goals; this is due to overly optimistic estimates or some other factors that affect the outcome. This paper aims to increase understanding of the acquisitions as a growth strategy, so by using contingency theory to analyze the results. The theory is used to analyze the factors that are important for a specific company, and it is highlightened that there are no general prescription for a successful acquisition. Due diligence, acquisition factors and post-acquisition factors are important elements for a business through the acquisition process; these will be affected by how well the company has analyzed the process from the legal, financial and commercial perspective. Conclusions of the study will be answered by our research questions and the purpose of our study. A conclusion that proved very important was the reason why a company wanted to make an acquisition, another conclusion of notice was the importance of how well the organizations strategy was implemented in the acquisition process. Finally we have been able to deduce that the corporate culture has been an important factor in any given acquisition.
