The motivation and engagement of the employees can be considered as an important resource for organizations and are of great importance for the success and productivity of the establishment. The purpose of this thesis is to survey the motivation of the assistant nurses in a nursing and care home. The research questions are: how is the assistant nurses’ motivation now and what can be improved to increase the motivation. To get an answer to this, an interview guide was designed based on the theory of Work Design Questionnaire (Humphrey & Morgeson, 2006). The information was collected by semi structured interviews with nine assistant nurses in a nursing and care home. The respondents were of the opinion that their importance to the customer, the enterprise, and the society was positive. The respondents suggested that improvements were needed among other for “önskeschemat”, time off at interacted nights and the solidarity in some of the departments. One suggestion to increased solidarity is that principals of the units arrange activities so that the assistant nurses get to know each other better.
