Abstract [en]

The following content in this paper will deal with integration of 3D objects into a real environment and the following question: “What methods are there to integrate 3D objects into a realistic environment and how is it done?”The work and research have been done in Söderhamn, Sweden, where I’ve worked at the 3D animation company Magoo 3D Studios. I have done some experiments with the help from employees of Magoo to test these different methods myself so that I can answer the questions that this paper is dealing with.As a result, I’ve reached the conclusion that all divisions within 3D, like modeling, texturing, light-rigging and compositing can all contribute in their own way, although, to a certain degree. My experiments have all been successful and I feel that they are on the right track to achieve photo realistic images.In the end, the methods that I feel are contributing the most to achieve a photorealistic result is the use of a good lit scene with a Image Based Lighting method, as well as having a good knowledge of how cameras work to be able to replicate certain traits and artifacts as good as possible.If you combine these methods, then you are a good way down the road to photorealism where you no longer can tell if computer generated images are real or not.
