Abstract [en]

Gender related themes have been discussed frequently during the past years in the media. One of the less discussed subjects are the attitudes related to housework division between men and women, i.e. whether the attitudes towards work done by women might be less positive compared to work done by men, even if the work done were to be the same. This thesis focuses on upper secondary school student's gender attitudes related to a number of different housework tasks. Altogether 63 students from three upper secondary schools in Helsinki, Finland, took part in the study. Two questionnaires were designed to obtain a realistic picture of the participants' attitudes. The results showed that the participants did not differ significantly in their attitudes toward housework, and no favoring of same sex agent was found.
