The spring of 2009 the municipality of Umeå became interested in doing an evaluation of the city’s residential area called Tomtebo within the limits of a candidate's work. The ideawas to evaluate the existing residential area and learn from this, and thus improve the futuredevelopment of the residential area.The purpose of the essay and the evaluation is that it will form the basis for the improvementof urban development in the municipality of Umeå. The work is limited to only be about Tomtebo in Umeå, and throughout the work the answer of the question "How has the municipality of Umeå succeeded in planning Tomtebo?" has been sought.The work began with a literature review and parallel to this three survays were made and sent out to residents in Tomtebo 2009-10-01. In total, 1337 survays were sent.In cooperation with the municipality's department of development and the software Esmaker NX2 was an analysis of the completed and returned questionnaires conducted.The response rate and the results of the initial questions is considered satisfactory forfurther analysis.The residents of Tomtebo are satisfied with their living situation, 93% would recommendthis area to friends and acquaintances. The outdoor environment and the area's planning turned out to be highly estimated factors for the area residents. Residents asks for an improvement when it comes to the lack of commercial services (mostly a grocery store) andtraffic queues at peak times.
