Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to investigate how the curators at secondary school experience hospitality with students who have or are using drugs. The focus of the survey was on what knowledge curators felt the need to respond to the students in the best way, how this treatment goes to and whether they felt that something needed to be improved or changed in order for treatment to be able to function better. I chose to conduct semi-structured interviews with high school counselors in two municipalities in north of Sweden. The conducted the interviews were analyzed using discourse analysis to highlight the discourses that emerged from the interviews. With the help of professional theory I have, as background, described the social worker emergence. Profession theory has also been used in the analysis to describe the proffessional role of the curators. The results of the survey show that the curators value empathy and concern as important qualities in their work. The knowledge curators considered as most important was the ability to detect and notice students with drug-related problems. Curators were generally satisfied with the work done on these students but felt that some improvements were needed, especially in the form of more knowledge to other staff.
