Abstract [en]

The popularity of wooden bridges is increasing. As a result of the price and the short assembly time of wooden bridge, more and more are built. A wooden bridge has the durabilityand the capacity comparable with bridges in other materials and since wood as a materialbecame less restricted in the standard a few years back, wooden superstructures of bridges have become more frequent. Martinsons Träbroars wooden bridges are able to produce pedestrian and bicycle bridges as well as advanced road bridges, adapted to heavy vehicletraffic. With a truss superstructure, the bridge is suitable for pedestrian- and bicycle trafficwith a span up to more than thirty meters. This type of bridge attracts both private customers and government companies, such as Trafikverket.The purpose of the thesis is to develop a methodology of calculation for Martinsons Träbroarswooden truss bridge. This methodology of calculation is presented in the form of a computational document adapted for Eurocode and TRVFS 2011:12 and in collaboration with the static and dynamic calculation program Multiframe. This will improve and adapt the design to the new demands placed on a bridge of this type, both for strength and serviceability. Earlier requirements and specifications in the standards were met by a certain modeling methodology, with the transition to new standards an update of the entire design process is required to ensure the most efficient work during the computation and design stage.Initially, a literature study was performed in order to examine the earlier methods of calculation and what affects the changes in the new standards had to the design of a wooden truss bridge. Since modeling and computation in general are based on each other, the work with modeling and computation happened simultaneously. A system model from Multiframe brought the section forces for the design of each individual element, which was organised in the calculation document.In addition to the necessary computing elements that make up the backbone of the calculation methodology a lot of time has been spent on getting a user-friendly and layout appealing interface in the final product.As a result of the thesis a calculation document has been produced, that in addition to the statics program is capable of handling a full load calculation and design of a truss bridge ofwood according to Eurocode and TRVFS 2011:12. Compared with the current design process Vthis will make the work easier and more effective, when designing a wooden truss bridge.
