Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to describe the occupational performance in the home 4-8 weeks after a short-term care, from the perspectives of guests and care staff. The study was designed as a multiple case study. 3 elderly people and their contact persons in the home care participated in the study. The data was collected through assessment of ADL-steps at the different occasions, and by interviews with guests and their care staff. Data analysis was inspired by content analysis. This resulted in 3 categories and a diagram depicting the results of the assessments in ADL activities. The categories were; ”occupational performance functions after adaptation”, ”meaningful activities are time consuming” and ”activity -whose responsibility ?” The result showed that it is difficult to maintain the effect of training in ADL activities after short-term care. Activities undertaken by the elderly were adapted in various ways and some activities were perceived as meaningless. The social environment was described as having influence on the meaningful activities. The elderly’s own experiences of being able to live at home revealed. The result also describes the importance for the elderly in receiving the adequate support for maintaining and developing their capacity for activity.
