In the construction industry you constantly try to find new solutions to improve the working process and make it more effective. This thesis is about exploring such an opportunity to renew and improve the process. The Swedish construction surveying company Picab production wants to evaluate whether a mobile mapping system is the right way to achieve that renewal. The thesis aims to determine whether the mobile mapping system IP-S2 from the manufacturer Topcon is something to invest in. The system consist satellite receivers, inertial measurement unit, rotation sensors, cameras and laser scanners. These combined components will together make a complete survey of the environment collecting data moving at normal speed with any ordinary car.To asses this, different questions have been discussed and different paths have been taken to find the answers to these questions. Initially the focus was on understanding how the system works and what each component really does. To get a real idea of how it works a trip was made to Topcons European office in the Netherlands, Rotterdam where a demonstration of the system was made. Tests of the software have been made to see how long it takes to process the information from the survey and then see if you can save time for imaging the environment as compared to regular surveying. Other questions discussed are what you can do with the information and if the measuring accuracy is good enough. It turns out from the calculations that the prices needed for using the system are very high and doubts about the investment occur. The price for one hour is 1500 kronor and for a specific work the price is 33 000 kronor.
