The new young generation y is vital in a long term perspective for many organizations. This isto the great cohort 40-talister, also known as the baby boom generation is about to leave thelabour market. In turn, this leads that organizations are in great need of new labour, whichwill be the generation y. Research shows that this generation has a different approach to workand working life than previous generations.The purpose of the paper is to get a picture of the young generation who are entering thelabour market. Why was a quantitative method to get a broader picture of the surveyparticipants approach to work. Young people today want challenging task, enjoyment anddevelopment opportunities. Earlier generations of work values in loyalty, achievement andmaterial ststus to a greater extent than the younger generation y.The result is based on a survey among 300 students between 20-30 years at Lulea cityuniversity of technology. The result shows that young people's attitudes and values aboutwork are different from previous generations. Lulea city department need to recruit many newpersonnel under severer years. This will be a challenge because today's young people do nothesitate to change employers who do not satisfy their wishes and needs.
