The purpose of this thesis was to study how people with disabilities are taken in consideration when it comes to the safety regarding the means of egress in structures below ground level. To find out how the interior of a structure could be designed to improve the safety regarding the means of egress for people with disabilities seven interviews were performed with representatives from different companies, organizations and agencies.A cost-benefit analysis was made to evaluate if the proposals that were given from the respondents were cost-efficient. The proposals that were given by more than two of the respondents were deemed most sufficient to undergo a cost-benefit analysis were Alarms focusing on different senses, Technically separated zones that are fireproof, Elevated requirements for areas of refuge and Fire safe elevators. These proposals were all deemed to increase the safety regarding the means of egress for people with disabilities in structures below ground level and therefore increase the welfare of the society at large. On the basis of this these proposals are recommended for implementation in structures below ground level where people with disabilities are expected to reside, to improve the safety regarding the means of egress even for these people.
