Purpose: This study examined whether physical activity contributes to a domino effect in healthy living habits and the attitude to physical activity among physically inactive individuals. Method: The study was quantitative with qualitative parts, the data collection was done via online questionnaires. The survey contained 32 questions and was answered by 269 respondents of which 192 responses were analyzed. Data analysis was done in the statistical program GraphPad Prism 7 where the Chi-square tests were used, also a manifest content analysis was done. Results: The results were divided into three different categories; differences in living habits, differences in perceived health, from physically inactive to physically active. Regarding living habits, the results showed that there were significant differences in diet- (p = 0.0001) and smoking habits (p = 0.0187), where the physically active individuals consider to have better habits in all of these areas. There were no significant differences in the snuff- (p = 0.1410) and alcohol habits (p=0.2629). Regarding perceived health there were significant differences in physical health (p = 0.0001), mental health (0.0001), social life (p = 0.0001) and self-confidence (p = 0.0001), where the physically active had better experiences in all of these areas. There were also significant differences in how important it is to have a good physical health (p = 0.0001). Among the physically inactive individuals 61 % stated that they want to, and 32 % stated that they might want to start with physical activity. Physically inactive individuals experienced lack of motivation as the main reason to their inactivity. Conclusion: The study showed that individuals who are physically active have better living habits such as good dietary-, tobacco-, and alcohol habits and also have better perceived overall health compared to physically inactive individuals. This suggests that physical activity contributes to a domino effect in healthy living habits. Physically inactive individuals have a positive attitude towards physical activity while they experience that it is important with good physical health. Lack of motivation is the main reason of physical inactivity.
