Extramuralt lärande: En studie av elevers upplevelse vid studiebesök på Vetenskapens Hus

This study was undertaken in an effort to focus upon pupils’ experiences of extramurallearning. The study was carried out among year 6 pupils in a school in the Stockholm district.The investigation began with the teacher preparing the pupils through carrying out lessonsregarding the scientific topic of ‘light’. In order to acquire deeper knowledge, an educationalvisit at Vetenskapens Hus’ exhibition on light and astronomy was arranged. Following thisvisit, the pupils were asked to participate in a survey, and the teacher was interviewed. Thedata was analyzed, influenced by the socio-cultural perspective. The result presents twodistinct themes: knowledge and experience, stating that knowledge consists exclusively offactual knowledge. Neither the pupils nor the teacher felt that new knowledge was gained;however they agreed that knowledge had indeed been obtained during the visit. The studyshows too the significance of spoken communication in learning. The pupils must get theopportunity to discuss their knowledge and try out their ideas together with other pupils andexperts/professionals – in accordance with the socio-cultural perspective that I am also goingto explain in this essay.
