The world is in a recession and many companies are working daily with efficiency. There aremany companies who are worried about the future and everyone must look at their costs so they can survive recessions. One way to improve efficiency is to renew the purchasing department, to make better purchases in the company. The project has been at LKAB working with an fficiency project called LKAB 370. LKAB370 is an efficiency project for the whole organization. They want to achieve a new costtarget. LKAB's goal is to get down to 370 kronor per ton in iron ore. This has meant that the purchasing department has received a lot of attention. This is because LKAB have seen howmush differences the purchase department dose. The project is in the line of LKAB 370 and at looking at efficiency, to look at purchase process, selective procedure for products andservice and amenities and how key performance indicators can help the purchase departmentat an industrial organization like LKAB. There are many projects that LKAB is working on today to improve the purchase epartment. LKAB's goal is to be the best, they want to be the best purchasing organization and they want to have the best purchasers.The purpose of this work is to look at purchase process, elective procedure for products and service and amenities and how key performance indicators can help a purchaser at thepurchase department to gather information about the market and the product for a negotiationwith a supplier. The purchaser shall have as much information provided on the cost drivers,market analysis and business intelligence.
