Vad finns i en bild?: En reflektion om rollen som illustratör

Abstract [en]

The essay "What's in a picture?" explores questions about what it takes to become an illustrator and what you may need to consider when illustrating someone else's text, viewed from a perspective of a hobbyist. The project has been carried out through the studies of both classic picture books as well as previous publications on the topic pictures for children's books, and through a lot of practical studies and exercises. The result was a collection of reflections about the differences between drawing for youself, without requirements compared to describing someone else's vision, how to use the image to expand the meaning of the text, what you can do when you are stuck, and what advantages or disadvantages there might be in selecting a previously illustrated text. Illustration is a large topic that is hard to narrow down in a bachelor thesis, nevertheless, this is a good introduction.
