Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
This study shows the thoughts, hopes and wishes of two male and two female music teachers, in grades 6 – 9 from four different cities of Sweden. The emphasis lays on usage of digital tools. As the schools now stand before lots of changes in its curriculums; the use of digital tools was the main thing that caught my interest. How has the schools interpreted what this means? What does this mean in terms of purchases for the schools? We already know that many schools are lacking proper facilities to conduct music lessons so this ads on even larger needs. And most importantly; how does this affect the students? Can the usage of digital tools benefit the equivalence between students or will it increase the differences? The teachers think it will increase the equivalence between the students. This is a small qualitative inquiry conducted through qualitative interviews regarding a subject in which one could dig really deep. The digital world has entered our schools through curriculums and students and now is the time to bring our music education up to date. I hope this can inspire someone to take that extra chance to make music education in Sweden into something to be proud of.
