This thesis studies the use of rebar carpets in a bridge structure for efficiency improvements in the construction process. The goal is to replace traditional reinforcement with rebar carpets, in a studied bridge, in order to determine the economic and time saving benefits. The reinforcement will be evaluated in the planning and design phase to identify any obstacles. Solutions will be given to these obstacles to improve the efficiency of the rebar carpet moment in the construction. Finally, a comparison is compiled where the rebar carpet design is compared to the original reinforcement design from a time- and economic perspective.The results from the survey show a reduction in time and costs for the construction moment of the reinforcement, which also reduces the overall result. The working environment is favored by the high degree of prefabrication, while the method creates a “simplicity” in the blueprint and a reduction in proficiency requirements. Meanwhile there is a risk, as with all new methods, for unforeseen problems along with a need for increased resources in the design and planning.The conclusion of the study stands positive to application of rebar in bridge structures. With proper planning and design, the method could improve a bridge economically as well as in terms of time and work environment. But above all, it will lead bridge construction towards industrial building.
