Abstract [en]

The construction industry sees that it is important to follow the flow of materialthrough the construction process to streamline the material flow. By linking thetracking of materials in production with the design model, it gives theopportunity to minimize waste in the construction process, which means amore efficient flow of material and a streamlined construction process.The thesis investigates requirements regarding the tracking of objects in theconstruction process using radiofrequency identification (RFID) tagging, andits interconnection with a building information model (BIM).By labeling items in a design model with information about specific objectsand physical objects with RFID tags showed that it was possible to establish alink between them. The object´s progression in relation to the design modelcould then be followed.Simulation of a case study of this was accomplished by following areinforcement delivery and its material flow at a project at NCC Teknik inGothenburg.In the case study practiced the transmission manually using an FTP server aswell as Excel and manual transmission to the design model. This process wasinefficient and required a lot of time in relation to the information. A technicalsolution to efficiently transfer information from material flow tracking to theBIM would be a way to streamline the process. Although transmission betweenthe labeling of objects in the RFID structure and BIM system can bedeveloped.
