Träningsmotivation - en upplevelse
Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
The aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of the individual experiences of exercise-related motives and behaviors. Ten women between the ages of 21-54 were interviewed. The questions were what kind of goals these individuals had with their exercise-related behaviors and what experiences were related to these goals and behaviors. Self-determination theory was used to interpret the answers from the interviews. The results show that seemingly uniform goals had different meanings among these women. This could be related to differences in these women’s ability to handle societal norms. Increased awareness of personal values could facilitate internal motivation and increased well-being. This could, in turn, contribute to increased focus on the many positive effects that exercise can bring about, above and beyond the results related to the main goal. Therefore, if the main purpose with the work of increasing people’s motivation to exercise is to improve the well-being of these individuals, it is important to focus on the internal regulation and the benefits related to the process and not just the goal itself.
