Abstract [en]

The objective of this study was to describe the relationship between A nine test screening battery for Athletes (NTSB) and performance parameters of basketball players in the Swedish youth national teams. The study design was a cross sectional study in which data from the Swedish Basketball Association's annual tests performed by female and male players from the Swedish youth national teams in the age of 15-20 years were analyzed. A total of 96 persons were included in the study, of whom 53 were women and 43 were men. Of these 96 persons 49 were playing in the European championship (EM). Correlation calculations were performed between total scores of the NTSB, NTSB's individual tests and 10-20-30 m sprint, Counter movement jump with arm swing (CMJ (a)) and time played at EM. Calculations were done for females and males respectively. The main result of this study was that for the total score on the NTSB there was a low correlation to all performance parameters for both female and male groups. For the female players there was a moderate correlation between one legged squat and 10 m sprint (r = -0.37), 20 m sprint (r = -0.43), 30 m sprint (r = -0.48) and CMJ(a) (r = 0.58). For female players, there was also a moderate correlation between the pushup test and 20 m sprint (r = -0.39), 30 m sprint (r = -0.42) and CMJ (a) (r = 0.39). The conclusion of this study was that NTSB has a low correlation to performance parameters of basketball which supports research that has been carried out on the Functional Movement Screen (FMS)
