Att säkra kompetens: En studie om kompetensförsörjning i samband med generationsväxling
2011 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

The study was conducted at two different businesses, one major forest company and a social service. The purpose was to examine and compare how they work with human resource planning in relation to major retirements and how they experienced the alternation of generations in terms of their different conditions. The aim was to illustrate the challenges that alternation of generations and human resource planning is, from a management perspective in private and public sectors. Survey data collection took place primarily through interviews, but was supplemented by documents established by the business and existing statistics. The study shows that businesses in the current situation, is not experiencing any major problems associated with the alternation of generations even though there are some retirees within the units. They work with different strategies to maintain competence such as skills transfer, retain employees who have reached retirement age and skills development. The businesses are involved in different projects with the purpose to attract new skills. Both businesses participate in competence committees and the forest company, who is very active in the work to attract new skills, is trying with various education coordinators to attract new people to the industry. There are many similarities in how the different businesses work, but primarily how they wish they could work. The public sector can not operate to profit, while the private can operate by market grounds. The public business in this study has as a result of this, not the same financial resources and can’t therefore acquire kills or conduct as extensive competence development such as the private company can afford.
