The thesis covers the design and simulations of surface roughness and under etching ofa simple trace. It shows how the surface roughness and under etching aects the electricalsignal attenuation of the trace and hence the eect on the signal propagation along thetrace. The simulations shows that the greater the roughness the greater the loss. Thesame is true for the under etching. Furthermore it shows that the discretization of thetrace needs to be small when the frequency goes up. This correlates with the skin eect.It also compares some measurements made on traces with the simulations. There wasno clear correlation between the results. This is most probably due to the dicult task ofmeasuring high frequency signals.The conclusion of the thesis is that the simulations correlates well with the theoriesbut that some further studies needs to be done.
