Kvinnors våld mot män: Hur män utsatta för intimt partnervåld av kvinnor har det i dagens Sverige
2012 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

When men’s violence against women is discussed in Sweden inequality between the sexes is most often mentioned as the cause. Although equality is discussed, women’s violence against men is never mentioned. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how men exposed to intimate partner violence of women have it in Sweden today, what help they are offered and how they are treated. A qualitative method was used in which 12 men exposed to intimate partner violence were interviewed. The results show that the exposed men had suffered psychological, physical, and sometimes even sexual violence. In contact with authorities, the men had been ridiculed, ignored, and not taken seriously. The exposed men do not seem to get any help in Sweden today. Due to the possible consequences of this the work with gender-equality should shift focus from equality between the sexes to equality between humans.
