Abstract [en]

The specific aim of this study was to highlight what makes guitar students experience delightand incentive to learn during instrumental lessons and also to highlight what makes their delightand motivation to practise their instrument decrease. Another aim was to discuss the weight offemale role models in the music business and also to investigate if boys and girls reasondifferently about a future with music in their lives. Methodologically the study has aphenomenological approach and the data was produced through qualitative interviews.The results show that the essentials in the experiences of what increases the students's delightand incentive to learn is Personal influence, The teachers positive response and The feeling ofcoherence and community. The essentials in their experiences of what makes their delight andmotivation decrease is Not understanding why, Not being seen as an individual, The abscenceof personal influence and The feeling of not making progress. The results also show that womenrole models is of great significance – besides acting as inspirational sources for women toidentify themselves with – to demonstrate the fact that it is possible for women to succeed in themale-dominated fields of the music business.
