Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to describe the experience adults diagnosed with ADHD have of occupational balance in their daily lives. Data were collected by semi-structured interviews, the interviews were analyzed using a qualitative content analysis. Four men and three women participated in the study. Inclusion criteria for participation were that they should be between 18-30 years, diagnosed with ADHD, have experience of work and / or study, understand and speak Swedish. The analysis revealed three categories; The importance of health in achieving occupational balance, How routines affect an individual's occupational balance and Learn strategies for achieving occupational balance. The result showed that it was important for the participants to take the support of tools to hold the balance in everyday life. Furthermore, the results showed that the participants are in need to have strategies and routines to achieve an occupational balanced lifestyle. Even how health affected participants occupational balance occurred in the result. If individuals with ADHD are aware of the disadvantages and the advantages are they able to handle the activities of daily life and finally attain an occupational balance that they are happy with.
