Abstract [en]

This paper seeks to create a deeper understanding considering what people perceive as main reasons for their decision to vote for Sverigedemokraterna (a Swedish political party that is considered to hold antihuman values) in the previous general election. This is done based on an assumption that people perceive immigration as a threat to society and the individual. The empirical material consists of nine semi structured interviews that has been held with people that voted for Sverigedemokraterna in the last held election. In this paper it is clear that people find that immigration is a threat to the society and, particularly, the individual within it. This is found to constitute one of the main reasons to why people choose to vote for Sverigedemokraterna. Furthermore is a feeling of frustration (that is seen as a result of an anger that is directed towards the political system and the established parties) found to be another reason to why people choose to sympathize with the political party (Sverigedemokraterna). The society is found to be characterized by individualization to a larger extent today than it was before and the degree of individualization is considered to matter in terms of to what extent immigration is perceived as a threat by the individual.
