The study aims to elucidate teachers in after-schools idea of the importance of play for developing children's social competence. The respondents are teachers in after-schools in a municipality in Norrbotten. Total 4 respondents take part in this study. In this work I have used the interviews as a method. Teachers in after-schools in this study uses play to strengthen social skills by offering drama exercises and group strengthening exercises. The result reveals that teachers in after-schools use the free play in a large scale and that it controlled the plays exists only for specific purposes. In my study, the respondents will present different material to be stimulating children to play in various forms. All Teachers in after-schools agree that the play is a good method and a good approach to the development of the individual child social skills when the play is a natural way for children to spend time on and making it easy and simple for kids to socialize. An important conclusion is teachers in after-schools suggest that the play helps them to create enjoyable activities that kids think is fun and that help children develop social competence.
