Hållbar bolagsstyrning i Sverige: En studie om jämställdhet i börsnoterade bolag
Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
2016 has been designated as a year of change in corporate governance of listed companies in Sweden. There is a possibility that a law will be introduced that will affect all listed companies, namely a law about affirmative action. If the law passes it regulates a minimum of 40 % women as board members within the listed companies. The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of sustainability and equality in corporate governance in Sweden. The study is based on a theoretical analysis model that has been developed and used throughout the study. The survey has been done mainly through a qualitative approach with interviews but it also has hints of quantitative method, due to the fact that 30 annual reports have been reviewed. The interviews were divided in two parts, with people working with equality and with the listed companies. The reason for the split is to get a broader view of the chosen subject and thereafter examine what organizations consider effects them. The results of the study shows three types of organizations; passive, reactive and active organizations. The organizations look at gender equality in different ways. The passive see it as a cost, the active sees it as a value creator and the reactive are in between. Will and ability within organizations is what effects their work towards equality and sustainability.
