Abstract [en]

When flight MH370 from Malaysia Airlines disappeared from the radars on the 8th of mars, newspapers around the world started speculating about what happened. This is a study showing how Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter published speculations of their own during the following two weeks. With a critical discourse analysis (CDA) and a source criticism analysis we have analyzed a total of eight articles from Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter separated in four from each newspaper. Our result shows how both newspapers have used a different approach to the sources available. Our study shows that Dagens Nyheter have used more of the news agency material, while Aftonbladet has a greater use of the reports from international media channels. This has resulted in two different versions of the same event.
